Transformative Safe Sport Leadership
Our Safe Sport Policy marks a bold step forward for athlete protection in African rugby. While we are not yet the continental leaders, we are firmly committed to reaching that standard as we continue setting high benchmarks in safeguarding and sporting integrity. Developed in close consultation with international safeguarding experts, this comprehensive framework tackles all forms of abuse. It fosters a culture of safety, respect, and accountability at every level of rugby in Uganda.
Policy Implementation Framework
Our Safe Sport Policy sets out clear behavioural expectations, robust reporting procedures, and graduated disciplinary measures that prioritise both accountability and rehabilitation. We have introduced an innovative three-tier response system, consisting of immediate safety and support measures, thorough independent investigation protocols, and evidence-based long-term prevention strategies that address the root causes of misconduct.
The policy framework includes our independent Safe Sport Commission, which ensures the impartial handling of all concerns while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and procedural fairness. Regular audits by external international experts support our commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with evolving global best practice.
Our partnerships with law enforcement, social services, and specialist support organisations provide comprehensive wraparound support for all individuals affected. This multi-agency approach ensures our response goes beyond the sporting environment, offering holistic care and long-term recovery support to anyone impacted by misconduct in rugby.
